How did you find...Hi Robert, thanks for commenting. How did you find my blog? I certainly wouldn't have guessed I had readers I didn't know about! I'll try to answer your questions.

1. The only neighborhood I looked in was Westwood because my girlfriend is going to school here in UCLA and has no car. I am pretty ignorant about the rest of LA. From here it's about 20-25 minutes to the Commerce by taking 10E then 5S if there's no traffic (which is almost never). From 3-6 it takes 1-2 hours. I have a friend in Culver City, which is probably 15-20 minutes to the Commerce with no traffic. It's within your price range and seems like a nice enough area. It's also 10-15 minutes from Hollywood Park, which I'm planning to post about soon (I kind of like it despite its reputation of being a dump.)

2. I mostly play 3-5, although I've also played the 5-10 at Commerce a little (only about 5 hours). Playing caliber seems comparable to Vegas. Probably slightly looser, but not as many drunkards throwing their money away (cocktails aren't free here like in Vegas). The buyin at 3-5 is fixed at 200 and at 5-10 it's 400. This holds true at Commerce, Hollywood Park, and I think the Bike too. In Vegas nobody would ever buy in for so little at these games. It makes it rather easy to tell who is doing well as soon as you get to a table.

3. Live on $4000/ month? That shouldn't be too hard unless you have some extravagant tastes.

4. I lived out east at Nellis and Sahara. Took 15 minutes door to door to the Mirage. There are some apartment complexes on Paradise that are walking distance from the strip and some good restaurants. I'm not sure if being so close would allow you to differentiate between home and the strip very well, but the proximity has its benefits. Henderson is nice and Green Valley Ranch Casino has a good poker room. It's a bit further from the strip, tough. The other nice neighborhood is Summerlin in the NW, but that's also further from the poker.

Good luck with your move.Keithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05447889236819454584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14966315.post-67881046080661208922007-01-22T15:48:00.000-05:002007-01-22T15:48:00.000-05:00keith,
long time reader. i'm currently thinking ...keith,

long time reader. i'm currently thinking of moving to LA to play cards full time. i'm discouraged by your recent post. i have a few questions if you don't mind replying to.

1. where is a nice and safe neighborhood to live that's around $1000/mo 1 bed and around 30minutes driving to the commerce? i have done some research on oakwood and west pasadena areas.

2. what is the playing level at the 5/10NL and 10/20NL game? how are they compare to the bellagio's 5/10 and 10/20 levels? what's the max buyin for both limits.

3. LA is faily expensive to live in i take it. could i live comfortably at $4000/mo after tax?

4. Where did you live while in vegas? what's a nice place to live in vegas that's near the strip. i have researched around henderson and paradise.

i will take any suggestions or comments on the LA and vegas poker scene.

Thanks!

RobertRBZhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05285558053709953137noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14966315.post-11735716922400904312007-01-19T15:21:00.000-05:002007-01-19T15:21:00.000-05:00Although I am certainly not a fan of the Commerce,...Although I am certainly not a fan of the Commerce, I think I made it sound worse than it really is. Most of this post involved exploring possible reasons why I haven't been able to enjoy playing there, so I was focusing on all the negative aspects. The place is actually okay, except maybe at the low limit games.Keithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05447889236819454584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14966315.post-53611405399178306612007-01-19T14:50:00.000-05:002007-01-19T14:50:00.000-05:00Holy crap, that place sounds terrible. I can only...Holy crap, that place sounds terrible. I can only imagine the state of the women's bathrooms. In fact, I'm trying not to. I wonder why places don't just use some kind of device like restaurants to page you when your name comes up. I can't imagine how bad the Hollywood Park Casino must be that you haven't been going there.

Note: Ben's British English sucks now. I feel like I should start offering him a cookie to say "lift" instead of "elevator." I don't even know why I'm marrying him now that his accent is gone. Hehe.

Good luck finding a nearby casino that doesn't suck. Maybe you'll have better luck with the Hustler Casino. At least it might have better "scenary."LWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12321713892441264308noreply@blogger.com
